Trust and accuracy

Data sources and verification

MyPotch should show where important information came from, how recently it was checked and where uncertainty remains.

Last updated 16 July 2026

Source priority

  1. The organisation’s official website or official location page.
  2. Direct telephone confirmation using an already published number.
  3. An official social profile controlled by the organisation.
  4. Government, institutional or recognised centre directories.
  5. Reliable third-party directories, used cautiously and checked against stronger evidence.

Opening hours

Opening hours should include a source, the date last checked and whether the source applies to the individual tenant or only to a shopping centre. Centre trading hours must not automatically be assigned to a tenant.

Useful public states include verified, not recently verified and unavailable. “Open now” is only an interpretation of published hours and can be wrong because of holidays, private events, load shedding, temporary closure or other exceptions.

Conflicting information

When reliable sources disagree, MyPotch should avoid guessing. The record should be flagged for review, the strongest source should be identified, and uncertainty should be explained where it affects a visitor’s decision.

Listing descriptions and classifications

Descriptions should be factual, concise and non-promotional. Categories, areas and centre relationships should be based on the organisation’s actual function and location. Alternative names may be stored to improve search without changing the organisation’s public name.

Corrections

Corrections must be moderated before publication. A proposed change should identify the field, existing value, proposed value and supporting source. Duplicate, closed and moved listings should redirect to an appropriate retained page where possible.

Read the correction guidance or the business claim guidance.
