A new electric-scooter rental service on the Bult has quickly become part of the student-area streetscape, but the launch has also prompted road-safety concerns from motorists and residents.
The service began on Monday, 27 July, as an affordable short-distance transport option. Community members have since reported riders moving through red lights, cutting across traffic and using the scooters unpredictably on busy roads. Those reports remain allegations rather than confirmed findings about individual riders.
Mooirivier Beskerming said it does not own or operate the rental service. Its role is limited to security support for the scooters, including tracking, monitoring and patrols intended to reduce theft, damage and vandalism.
The organisation asked the public to report reckless use or vandalism through its control room, with photographs or video where safely available. Riders remain responsible for obeying road rules and protecting pedestrians, motorists and themselves.
